At BEMC, we utilize Dr. Simeon’s
protocol for weight loss. This protocol has recently regained popularity
through Kevin Trudeau’s book, “The Weight Loss Cure”. This practice uses
prescription HCG, a pregnancy hormone, to rapidly mobilize about 1 pound
of stored body fat daily. The result is that the patient does not feel
hunger, and therefore is more apt to stick with the program. While not
FDA approved for this purpose, HCG appears to be a safe and effective
option for men and women who have had difficulty losing and maintaining
their weight.
This protocol is divided into four phases. Each phase is described below
in more detail.
Phase 1 is basically prepping your body for the diet. There are two
important concepts of this phase. The first is the elimination of sugar,
trans-fats and chemically processed foods and drinks from your diet,
while eating mostly organic foods. The second is bowel detox which can
be done by either 4-5 colonics, or by herbal supplementation. This
phase takes 3-4 weeks.
Phase 2 is the actual weight loss portion of the protocol, which
includes the daily injection of HCG. The patient eats only 500
calories per day, but because of the mobilization of stored fat which is
about 2500 calories, there is no hunger. This phase of the diet lasts
between 21 and 40 days. If done for less than 3 weeks, the patient
immediately regains any lost weight. The food choices are very limited
and specific and must be strictly adhered to. No fat or sugar is
allowed. During this time, it is suggested that the patient refrain from
using large amounts of body lotions and cream, as this can limit weight
loss. It is also important to sleep 7 to 8 hours each night as most
metabolic processes take place during sleep. After 40 days of phase 2
injections, the patient must take a “break” for about 6 weeks. After
this break, another round of phase 2 can begin.
Phase 3 is a 3-6 week period in which unlimited amounts of food may be
eaten, with the exception of sugar and starches. Daily weights are
important during this phase.
Phase 4 is the maintenance phase of the protocol, and involves the
re-introduction of sugars and starches slowly into the diet.
The HCG protocol is not a “quick-fix” plan. Strict adherence to the diet
is very important and therefore we recommend that each patient carefully
consider their own motivation. Patients who are able to follow the
protocol have been successful. Make an appointment for more
information.
